Hello,
Welcome to ASU Preparatory Academy. My name is Mrs.Van Buhler, and I am one of the Visual Art teachers at ASU Prep! I teach 8th grade Art as well as High School IGCSE Art and Design, and AS Cambridge Art and Design, and I have a 10th grade capstone. My classroom is located in A-3
I was born in raised in Tempe, and continue to live there today. I have been drawing or coloring for as long as I can remember so I knew my career would need to include art. I started out as a painting major at ASU, but during my first semester I met another student who was majoring in art education. When she explained more about the major I decided to make the switch. I had been working with students at a before and after school program called Kid zone for two years and I loved it. I loved the fact that being a visual arts teacher allowed me to combine my love for art with my enjoyment of helping students learn. I graduated from ASU with my BFA in art education, and my area of proficiency is in drawing and painting. My favorite type of art medium is oil painting. Besides art I also enjoy playing tennis, movies, gardening, and spending time outdoors. Being in nature inspires me, and I find that most of my work contains some nature element to it.
As some of you may know, I was formally known as Ms. Willis, but in June of 2016 I got married! I had a beautiful wedding and an adventurous honeymoon. My husband and I spent two week traveling around various cities in Italy, and then ending our trip in Paris. I got to see so many beautiful places, and had the opportunity to visit my favorite artist's home- Monet! I am so excited to begin painting and drawing some of the locations I explored!
This will be my 6th year teaching at ASU Prep, and I am excited for the 2018-2019 school year!
Looking forward to meeting all of you!
Mrs. Van Buhler
